ABOUT THE VILLAGE OF BYALA VODA
The old name of the village is Konak. It is situated on a slope, descending from the peak of Bosna in the south, at 403 m above the sea level. The village received its present name in 1951. The discovered archeological monuments and objects prove that the village has existed even in the Antiquity.
400-500 years ago the people settled in the place of Sardjovo, located 4 km eastward from the present village.
As the inhabitants often suffered from different diseases and the Circasses committed many incursions, the peasants decided to move away.
Some of them founded the village of Kalovo, and the others – the village of Konak. When the inhabitants moved away, they demolished the church and built another one with the same material on the new place. The village was named after the place called “Konachishteto” (The Resting place) There were some resting places that accommodated travelers from Bourgas to Viza and Instanbul and vice versa.
The farming, stock-breeding and lumbering was and still is the main occupation of the inhabitants.
ARCHITECTURE
The church “St.Ilia” was declared an architectural monument and dates back to the ХVІІІ c. The following chapels are located in the vicinity: “St. Ilia”- situated at 3-4 km west from the village “St. Petka”- situated at 1 km south from the village, in the Ryakata place “St. John of Rila”- situated at 2 km north from the village, in the Marino selishte place The place situated near the “St.John of Rila” chapel, built in 1998 in Strandja Mountain, is charged with strange energy. Recently a spring with gray-whitish colour jetted there. Probably that confirms the ancient name of the village - Byala voda (White water). The locals claim that this is a curative spring. The interest in that place increases, because a lot of strange things happen here at any time. Light spheres descend from the sky at night. Snakes creep in the snow. The sharp winter wind can’t blow the candles up. It is sufficient to stay for a while to feel in your body a new vital power.
HISTORY LANDMARKS
Traces of an ancient village found on the right bank of the Mladejka River opposite the Gradishteto place.
A four-sided altar without traces of inscription placed in the “St.Ilia” church. There is a fragment of millstone close to the iconostasis. The church floor is covered with flat and square antique bricks. Such bricks and ceramic fragments were discovered during ploughing in the Marino selishte place.
Traces of old Roman road are discovered north and south of the village in the direction of Malko Tarnovo. The discovered inscriptions tell about a sanctuary dedicated to Zeus, Hera and Heracul.
